Martha Koome Nominated By JSC For Chief Justice Appointment

The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has made history by nominating Court of Appeal Lady Justice Martha Koome Karambu for appointment as the next Chief Justice of Kenya.
“JSC makes history as it nominates the first woman Chief Justice of the Republic of Kenya, Lady Justice Koome Martha Karambu..” Said JSC.
Confirming the news was Prof. Olive Mugenda who is the Vice-Chair of JSC who revealed that the decision was unanimously recommended with her name forwarded to President Uhuru Kenyatta for appointment.
Martha Koome joined the Judiciary back in 2003 after serving as a human rights activist and rising through the ranks to become a Judge at the Court of Appeal.
With over 33 years experience, she has successfully applied for the Chief Justice position twice. Her name will now be forwarded to the Legal Affairs Committee in Parliament before her appointment is finally confirmed.
Other candidates interviewed by JSC include Philip Murgor, Prof. Patricia Mbote, Ms. Alice Yano, Justice Said Juma Chitembwe, Lawyer Fredrick Ngatia, Prof. Moni Wekesa, Justice Marete Njagi, Justice William Ouko and Justice Matthews Nduma Nderi.
