Police in Mombasa have disrupted a United Democratic Alliance meeting at Terrence Villa in Nyali.
Before the meeting was interrupted, the party’s Chairman Johnstone Muthama sneaked out of the resort as he had allegedly received a tip of their mission.
The police however had a tough time breaking the meeting as supporters and aspirants demanded to know what they had done wrong to deserve such treatment.
According to Daniel Masaba, the police commander of Nyali constituency they had been notified of such plans thus making the meeting illegal. Masaba also noted that such arrangements are not allowed given the COVID-19 situation in the country.
Many of those in attendance pleaded to be given time as they carried away food which they said it had been paid for and it will go to waste.
UDA Secretary-general Veronica Maina noted that it was the second time they are being forced to cancel a meeting with the first one being in Meru.
Johnstone Muthama noted that they are getting stronger despite government challenges they are facing.
The party was placed on Tuesday when DP William Ruto was given a warm welcome in Kisumu as he plans to tour the county anytime soon.
