Dedan Kimathi University Main Campus Closed Indefinitely
July. 15, 2021
Learning at Dedan Kimathi University’s main campus in Nyeri has been halted indefinitely following student unrest.
The students are reported to have protested a planned fee increment by the University prompting the management to order all learners out of the institution to avoid any damages.
Images making rounds online showed some of the students taking to the streets blocking the road leading to the University.
The news comes a day after students from the University of Nairobi protested over fee increment amid attempts by the police to block the university’s entry points thus preventing the students from going out.
Those who were on the streets were joined by KMPDU officials urging the government and school administration to call off the planned increments noting that they will affect their future generation.
UoN Vice-Chancellor Prof. Stephen Kiama defended the institution saying that the increments will not affect the ongoing students but only those set to join in August and September.
Kiama continued by saying that the agreement had been reached a long time ago and that they are only implementing it.
